Ihe concert and ball given in aid of the funds of the Grey Hospital took place here on Friday: eveningi and was a great success The folfowvn.g programme was rendered-— Overture, Mrs Cadzow; song, "I want to sea the old home again," Mr Lauder (encored) ; song, "Sunshine and Rain" Miss Watson; song, "Soldier's Farewell," Mr. K. S. Dillon; song, "Roses," Miss Weber (encored: ".Coming through the Rye"); violin solo, Mr F McCarthy (recalled); song, "Braes of Mar,"-- Mr' W.* B. Caclzow (encore number "Minstrel Boy). ■ - ■ .. The items of the second, part of the programme were— Overture, Mrs Cad zow; vocal duet "Life's Dream is O'er," Misses Watson; song, "The Outpost," Mr H. F. Doogan (encore number, "The Message) ; recitation, "Spirit of Contradiction" Mr O. Egden (encore nutober "A Game of Cards"; 'comic song "Jeniioo," Mr M. Lauder, (encore: "Stop your tickling jock") ; song (by special request) "Sally Horn sr," Mr \V. B. Cadzow (encored); song "Mona" Miss Burger (encored) ; Highland Fling in costume, Mr O. McLean (recalled). 'Mr H. Coppersmith was in the chair 'and thanked Messrs Cadzow and G. Moss the organisers of the concert, and all concerned. The various vocal performers were accompanied by Mrs W. B._ Cadzow and Miss M. Watson. About £30 was the gros 5 takings. The iball was well attended and proved enjoyable. Mr Scmple, on behalf of the Miners' Usnioin, and. Mr Hidkey, representing the Dunollie Socialists, proceeded' to Grey on Saturday to be present at the reception to Mr Ben Tillett in the; evening. ' . Herd kindly showed the visitor' the various works of the State mines and Ben Tillett •expressed : himself as satisfied with all that he l s'aw^ in the way of coal mining under State control in New Zealand; Mr Robert Russell hospitably entertained tne party at luncheon.
