Victory for unionists. ■':.:■■ SIX LADlir RETURNED* (Reed. 4th, iCviS p.m.) LQNOiON, Nov. 4. ; The Unionists won upwards of 134, seats in the English and Welsh municipal elections. A great majority of their victories were in. the borughs which elected libeTal members to the House of Commons. T.he Liberals won 22 seats, Labor candidates 22. Independents four, Socialists 5Socialists seeing re-election m four boroughs, were ousted and severely defeated in 27 where they attempted 1 to displace councillors seeking reelection. ■■■■'""■! Mrs (Dr.) G. Anderson and five other . ladies were elected. \as municipal '30 councillors. . ■ The Chronicle says the _ primary cause was the fear of Socialists; and secondarily that the Anglicans and Roman Catholics were assailing the Liberals. It is not a bad thing for Liberalism if the Socialists continue their Ishamelite tactics of lndiscnm- '* - inately attacking both practical parties as the results at Huddersfied and elsewhere prove . The Chrome c adds— "The friendship of Socialists is more dangerous to Liberalism ; than their hostility.
