CHRISTCHURCH SYNOD

GHiRLSTC'H'URCH, Oct. 29. The Diocesan Synod to-night discussed at considerable length Archdeacon Harper's motion for the establishment of a diocesan girls' high school in Christchurch, at an estimated cost of £8500. An amendment in the direction of starting such a school in a small way was rejected, and the debate adjourned" till Monday. The question of Sunday funerals was also discussed, and the following motion carried : "That this Synod welcomes the protest of the Canterbury Trades and Labor Council against the custom of Sunday funerals, and urges the laity of the diocese in all possible ways to support the clergy in their endeavor to reduce such fuinerals to occasions of absolute necessity. During the debate Canon Pascoe said that he particularly objected to military funerals on 1 Sundays.
