PROGRAMME FOR THE SESSION
WELLINGTON, July 3
At the caucus of:, member s of the Government Party toVday 56 were present, and others were accounted fo. The iPrime Minister* congratulated the Party on the large attendance, and- thanked them for their expressions of welcome. The present caucus, he added, was r the first held since he became head of the Government, and he hoped that there would be many future meetings to discuss matters of importance. He could not discuss policy measures, but he hoped •that the Party as. a whole would keep in close touch with the Government upon the more important measures. He indicated, as measures that Parliament should put through this ses-
'"",-tho Land Bill, Native Land bill, and the -customs tariff. It was important that the arbitration sys;tem should be amended so as to ensure a continuance of its benefits. <He also hoped to put through a classification and superannuation scheme for the Civil Service. Developments in the' Postal and Railway Departments necesitated an alteration since ;the 'Te.Cj!asS'incation -soheme. Refsr;ing to the Hon. W. Hall- Jones, S\Joseph said that three doctors who examined him the day he (Sir J. G. Ward) returned were hopeful, but if on his return "- he was, unhappily, mot restored to Health he would consider the question of filling the vacancy. The caucus agreed to a motion to ?nipor. tf.e Government.
