WELLINGTON.
Great interest was taken in the polling to-day for election of mayor and councillors for the city of Wellington and crowds gathered in the streets to view the posting of the progress figures. -Early in the evening it was clear that the Hon. T. Hislop would defeat Mr T. Wilford, M.H.R. by a large majority. Victory for Mr Hi* lop was so assured that the final figures were taken for granted and the candidates addressed the electors. Tie final results were: — Hislop 5658; Wilford 2063. 7 At Onslow Mr Harkness was elected mayor. AUCKLAND. The ordinary amount of dnterest was taken in the municipal .elections to-day but there was no unusual dis play of excitement Mr A. M. Myers was re-elected mayor for the third term the figures ibeint^ : — Myers 4568; St. Clair 673. Out of a roll number of 16,110 only 6250 voted. > WESTPdRT.
