WELLINGTON, Feb 23,

Wellington showed very poor batting against the Melbourne team, only scoring 124, of which the j last wicket made 30, Hutchings 24, J Blacklock 22, Hicksen and Redgrave 15 each Monaghan 12, Upham 11, McLeod took 5 wickets for 64, Armstrong 5 for 48, the latter securing three 1 b w. The yisitors lost one wicket for 40, Mailer 29 not out. Almost a gale was blowing. WcLeod bowled against it unchanged for 1£ hours.

Mr Austin, a member of iJithc Reef ton Fire Brigade, was present ed by the members on Wednesday evening with a handsome silver mounted dressing case prior to his departure for Dunedin.
