ME C. J, ROHIOFF, "\ r ory general regret will be felt at the announcement of the death of Mr C. J. Hohloff, a very old' and respected rosi> dent of this town. Mr Kohloff's end was very sudden, and following so closely oa that of his wife, who died on the ]Oth irist., will come as a. shock to his many friends. Mr Rohloffi has v not experienced robust health for some considerable time, and has been a sufferer from rheumatics, and last night,: about nine o'clock, he suddenly dropped dead at his • residence. ; To the sons and daughters of the late Mr Hohloir the sympathy of all will bo extended in their' 1 great loss. Our Kumara correspondent writes: — News reached here on Saturday night of the' death of Mr Alexander Sutherland, which took place that afternoon at his residence, Wellington, 'ihe deceased in. the early days of Kumara, with his mate, Mr Roderick McKenzie, M.H.R. for Motueka, held and worked one of the richest claims on the Larrikins. After* wards they were the successful tenderers for the construction of the Arahura bridge and protective works, and on its completion were again the successful tenderers for the Westporb harbour works, which they successfully com* plcted. Deceased, with his wife (noe Mis« Minnie Minehan), afterwards went to reside at Wellington, where he purchased the goodwill of the Cambridge Hotel, and during tluit time he had the misfortune to purchase the Coromandcl — a vessel well known at Greymouth — •. which afterwards.-"r"-'Vzcd while lying at the Wellington Viiarf, and ruined Mr Sutherland in trying to lift her. Dcs ceased was a ship's carpenter by trade, was about 55 years of age, and a nativo of Scotland. For the past five years he was a confirmed invalid, and leaves be* hind a wife and three children, to whom is extended the sympathy of this disfcriefc. • The Wtest Coast Tlimes records the deatih of Ma- John -A.- Jeaaies, of Stafford, wihaich took place at his residence on Sunday evening last . after an ness of some length.
