A Licensing Case.
(per press association.) INVERCARGILL, Dec. 10. Of tho first prosecution at Invercargill under the now Licensing Act, Section 42 which makes it an offenco to be on licensed premises after closing hour took place to-day, before Mr Riddell, S.M., when an elderly man was charged with being on hotel premises after closing time. Ho admitted the offenco, but explained that he did not remain after ton o'clock for the purpose of obtaining drink, but in order to have a conversation with a friend whom he had not seen for some time, and who was staying in the hotel. Tho police, said there was no evidence that, drinking had been going on or was about to tako place. Defendant was fined 10s and costs 7s.
