Christohubch, July 31. The ofllc>al opening of -the electrical plant in con eitiou with the city destructor took plac* th s evening. The mayor stated that the engine r formally took ovei the plane on behalf of the ci y from Messrs Noyes 8 ros, of Dunedin, the contractors. At the social function later the toast of the contractors was honored and bi^h tributes paid by never il speakers to the manner in which work had been carried out. The plant, which j in operated by strain generated by the burning of the refuse, is estimated to produce 240 I unite of electricity per da^ and to 'return 1 a 'profit' of nearly LloOO P«r I annum after paying for the' collection | of rubbish.
