LAND FOR TROOPERS.
The conditions under which the area known as the Otunake special settlement was recently set apart for membeis of New Zealand contingents who served in the South African caDipaign are published in a supplement to the New ZeaLmd Gazette. The block, which is situated in the Auckland district, has b<-en surveyed into sections of not more than 320 acres each, and it is provided that nob fewer than 36 persons must be located on it. The land is to be disposed of by lease at a rental of 4 percent on the capital value fixed by the Minis'er. Each pettier must put on the land comprised m his lease substantial improvements as follows: — (a) Within one year from the date j of his lease, to a value equal to 10 i percent of the price of the land. | (b) Within two years from the date j of his lease, to a value equ'il to another 10 per ce-it of the price of the land. (c) And thereafter but within six years from tbe date of his lease to a value equal to another 10 per cent of the price of the land, and in addition must within six year 3 from the date of his lease put substantial improvements of a permanent character to an amount equal to the net price of every acre of land. Residence and occupation is t© be in accordance with the Land Act of 1892.
