The Austral Whe-1 Rnce resulted — Martin 1, Middleton2, Walker, 3. 30,000 attended the Austral Wheel Race. Martin started favorite at 6to 4 on. One man backed him for LSOOO and other backers brought the total to LBOOO. The ring was badly hit. Beauchamp was disqualified for twelve months for alleged running in the interests of the other competitors. The stewards recommend the League to disqualify him for life. From a good start Lewis looked like making a runaway race of it. Beauchamp paced Martin up and then re tired. Entering the last lap Middleton was leading ab this point ; Martin, however, passed him half a l<p from home and won a fine race by three lengths. Time 429 3-5.
