DREDGING : RETURNS.
The returns this week are highly satisfactory, and show a steady tendency to increase. It is only a matter of time before the dredges at present working will prove highly payable* properties; The Pactolus tops the list again this week with 109 ounces, and is indeed a valuable property. The coast dredges are proving themselves to be-better on the average than Otage, and when a few more get to work the gold won weekly -will be a substantial amount. The returns this week hold out a bright) prospect for the future and after the holiday season, has passed over and work resumed in earnest again the coming year should be one of prosperity as far as the dredging industry is concerned. The following are the returns: —
The Pactolus will be stopped till after the holidays during which time the ladder will be lengthened about six feet. The Dispatch Foundry have the work in hand* The North Beach dredge was^, brought to a standstill on Saturday through'th'e shaft bending.
