At the meeting of the Gibbs Beach Gold Dredging Company to-night it was decided to go into voluntary liquidation. It was stated that an unofficial offer of L3OOO had been made for the dredge. At the meeting of the Wareatea Gold Dredging Company, whose claim is near Westport, it was alleged that it ■ was salted. The question of liquidation was adjourned and a committee appointed and authorised to canvas the shareholders for subscriptions to prosecute the alleged salters. It was mentioned that already fairly large sums had been promised. Napier, December 12. \ Messrs Nelson Bros. Ltd; have re- \ ceived the following cable from the Colonial Consignment and Distributing Company Ltd., London, to-day : — The stocks of frozen meat of all kinds are very heavy. The demand is stagment and there is a further fall in the values of mutton. To-day's quotations are — best Canterbury mutton 3 3-8 d per lb ; best Napier, Wellington and North Island mutton, 2|d per lb ; lamb : Ist - quality, ' 4|d per lb ; lamb : 2nd quality, 4£dper lb. Dunedin, December 12. J. A. Millar, M.H.R, was presented to-night by his friends with a handsome, gold chronometer and purse containing 70 soys in recognition of his action in his advocacy of an "all red " ocean mail service and oposing the contract with Spreckels and Co. P. Hally was selected as the labor ,; condidate. He addressed a largely atof the Caversham electors to-night and was well received. He announced himself as a Government supporter. He would uphold the present system of free and secular education. A vote of thanks and confidence was carried by an overwhelming majority. • ,f
