INQUEST ON A RAILWAY FATALITY.
[per press association]. Invercargill, 12. Theinq. 7 <sfc on Fraak Thomas, the platelayer killed in the Cl llision of a railway tricycle and the train, was advanced a stage to d*y. Doctor Rc-g' ra, who attended Fraser, said that he detecied no sign of drink on him or deceased. Lawrence Fr »ser's evidence was taken at the liosp tal. He said (hat be was a ganger and got notice of a special train haying -left Woodlauda to j inspect the line. .At 9pm he wmt sonth to Long'm*h. Coming back he \ picked up Thomns and went north to Morton Mains, which was cached at 10 5. He then set out to .return to Woodlands, travelling about 5 or 6 miles an hour. Wit,n< ss bad a red lamp in his left hand and kept a sharp 'ook out ai d soon after turning he thought he siw a light at. fourteen curvp, or about 2 mil s away. Thomas looked, and said he could see nothing and that witness must be mistaken. Witness said if it was a train he would see it as he came into the straight on which they were running, but saw no light whatever. The engine seempd to rise up in front of them and he could see no light on ih This was after travelling about a. quarter of a mile after he supposed he had seen the train light.
