appealing for shilling subscriptions in aid of a memorial to commemorate the brilliant services of General Buller during his military career.. It is explained that the movement has ; no party bias. Subscriptions are being seught after in all parts of the Empire. Melbourne, December 12. Mr Barton states that ib is the opinion of the Government thab the present position of affairs in South Africa unwarrants the colonies sending further/ troops j but if official intimation is made that further contingents are wanted it will be considered. The N S Wale 3 Premier considers that the State has done a 'fair share in ptoviding troops, and if the FederalGovernment choose to take the responsibility of sending more they could do so. • | The 'Queensland Premier approves J of sending another contingent, and thinks Barton should have offered one long ago.
