If there is one thjng more than another that could bear striking testimony as to the widespread respect felt for the deceased gent'eraan it is the number of telegrams and let'.ers of condolence and sympathy that have poured in since' the nature of Mr Kerr's illness was known. Since the public announcement of his death, the telegrams have literally poured in by hundreds to Mrs Kerr — from Auckland to the Bluff, and from all. par is between both sides of the Islands. On the Coast especially the messages came couched in terms that showed the senders felt as if they had been de.N prived of n valued personal friend. We append the following as being more or less of a semi-public nature : — " Wellington, August 26. , " Mrs Kerr, Giey, — ( " The .Governor,,and Lady Ran- ' f urly much regret to hear of your" sad ' loss, and send their sincere sympathy i to you and your family. J " Captain Alexander." -
" Wellington, August 26. " Mrs James Kkrk, Q ey,— "On l>half of the whole of the Liberal Party in the House of Representatives we send' you our sincere condolences on the loss of your husband, who commanded the respect of * us all.
" Wellingt-.n, A-i o ust 2«. (t Mrs J^.Kerr, Grey, — " The sad news of the death of your dt-ar huaband was a great bhuck to us all. No man in Parliament was held in greater respect than be was, and none deserved it more. Accept our sincere sympathy in your great : loss. " Wm Hall-Jones."
" Wellington, August 26. "James Kerr, Esq, Grey mouth. " Mrs Seddon, self, Hon Mr Walker and several Lcgisla'ors leaving by Hinemon- at fix o'clock to-night. Hope Jrou are all bearing, up bravely under thi3 -your great trial. Mrs Milne is too ill to come ; probably Mr Milne may come down ; he is not very strong either. Kindest regards. "RJ Seddon."
