A constable went to secure the man, who rushed him with a knife, and tho constable shot him dead. Another daring jewellery robbery has taken place. Keir's window was ■mashed and LlOO worth stolen. The police made another betting raid and made 21 arrests. . •Brisbane, August 2s. Another shipment of 500 cattle is beinf made to South Africa, also 100 heifers purchased by Government for the Natal Government. (Received August 27, «t 0 51 a m.) Sydhbt, August 26. The master of th« barque Alexa, wrecked at Suprise Island, has arrived. Probably an inquiry into the loss of the vessel will be held here. Adelaide Augusfc 26. On the strength of further heavy rain the Advertiser newspaper sa\s it is almoat certain the wheat yield will be better than for the last decade.
