LITERATURE FOR THE BUSY MAN.

(0) __ \ One of the most unique literary efforts on record is the . "Library of Famous Literature," which has just -' been edited by Dr. Richard Garnettj C.8., in association with M. Leon Vallee, Dr. Alois Brandl, and Dr. Donald G. Mitchell, and of which r 19,000 sets of 20 octavo volumes each were distributed in England by The Standard in a few months. The project is almost unique "of its kind. Though ambitious, it is practical, = and for a small outlay can place himself in possession of a selection of -the works of the greatest masters of literature, accompanied by critical essays by men who are accorded without question the right to hold the first place in the several dej)artments of letters with which -■-they deal. Dr. Garnett is perhaps the one man living sufficiently qualified to undertake this task. He has just retired from the \. position of Keeper " : .pf : '" the .Printed Books at the British' Museum, after spending nearly fifty year\, within its walls. During "tK^time, Ins advice ?- ' and assistance have- been given to almost every, man of letters who has made, use of the great national storehouse of books'; probably there is no man living whose services have been thankfully acknowledged in so many . prefaces to books. His immediate -. assistants are no less capable. . . For a short time only, residents of \ New Zealand may secure this work t upon the terms and prices that originally ■ prevailed in London. Those who apply promptly will secure their sets at once. t Further particulars are printed else- |- where.
