Quite an unusually large attendance of citizens was present at the meeting of the Borough Council last evening, drawn, no doubt, by the question of deciding regarding the Trinity Church ground as a site for the erection of a town hall, throughout the meeting they applauded the speakers opposing the church site. To-day Messrs Easson and Co will sell on the premises ab Mr Jacob Cohen's store the whole of his stock of furniture, both new and second-hand, also floorcloths, sundries, and crockery, without reserve. The annual ball in aid of the funds of the Grey River Hospital will be held afc Maori Creek this evening. In another column M E Urquhart has .an advertisement adddressed to those married and about to marry; . A young man named J O'Donnell engaged getting timber for the Inkerman Company met with a serious accident .on Wednesday, having the misfortune -to drive a pick through his foot. A meeting of the Harbor Board wili be held this evening at 7 30. C Smith's change of advertisement will appear in our next issne. The West Coast portion of the 'Frisco mail left Wellington for the Coast per Rotokine yesterday. The Druids held their quarterly me-it-ing last evening, when there was a very full attendance. Bro Ashton, PA, presided. The receipt of L 5 f rom the Grand Lodge in aid of the Hospital was acknowledged. Arrangements to play a football match with the Reef ton-Lodge were also made, a comir.it-.tee of thr«e being appointed to arrange; matters. Harmony was then indulged in, and a very pleasant evenin>jf>>vrts spent. ..Tw,o candidates were proposed and .the meeting closed ab 930 with the usual formalities. Yesterday afternoon a large deputation composed of all the leading citizens of Grey mouth waited upon the committee of the Garrick Club, with the view of inducing the club to-' give one of their famous tri-weekly socials at least six times in seven days. The leader of the deputation pointed out that the postponement of to-night's social from last Wednesday resulted in a large increase of victims or the influenza ; and that on the grounds of humanity the Government should largely subsidise an institution that exerted such a power of good. Tho management heartily thankecUhe deputation for the many compliments and good wishes expressed by them, all of which they knew were well-deaerved. Il was the intention of the club to cure the town by sections, the Opera House not being large enough to hold the whole of the community, at one entertainment. As the most important football match of the Coast was to be pUyed on Saturday, tonight they would fortify and strengthen the rival teams, together with their relatives, friends, barrackers, and supporters of the noble game generally, to the number of five, or six thousand ; and so soon as arrangements could be made, the balance of the population would be placed under suitable treatment. The deputation then thanked the management and withdrew.
