Wellington, August 21. The House met at 7 30. Mr Hogg's Rabbit Nuisance Act Amendment Bill passed through committee without material amendments. The second reading of Mr Palmer's Local Bodies Goldfields Public Works \ and Loan Bill was postponed, the Act- ; ing' Speaker (Mr Guinness) ruling that as it was a loan bill it could only be introduced by Governor's message. The motion for further consideration in committee of MrG W Russell's Eight Hours Bill was negatived by 32 to 20. Mr Barclay's Shops and Shop Assistants Acts Amendment Bill was considered in committee at great length. Eventually Mr Barclay agreed to abandon that portion of the bill giving domestic servants a half holiday. Mr Barclay agreed to abandon that portion of his Shops and Shops AssisAct 1894 Amendment Bill which proposed to give~.domestic servants a weekly half holiday and clauses 4 and 5 were accordingly struck out. The Bill was reported with amendments The House rose at 12 15. Wellington, August 22. The House met at 2.30. The greater part of the afternoon was occupied discussing the report of the Public Accounts Committee in regard to five cases between the Audit Office and the Treasury Department under section 9 of " The Public Revenues Act, 1900." The debate was interrupted by the 5.30 adjournment. The House resumed at 7 30. The debate on the Public Accounts Committee's report was continued, and eventually a motion that the report lie on the table was agreed to. Mr Seddon announced that he proposed to-morrow to put through an Imprest Supply Bill and then to begin the financial debate at 7 30. Mr Seddon moved that the amendments made in Committee in the Government Advances to Settlers Extension Bill be agreed to. The debate was proceeding at 12.50 a m.
