He devoted himself to % traversing Captain Russell's speech i principally, and gave an outline of the . Government programme for next session, 3 in favor of Auckland as the port of call for the Frisco mail service, endeavoring . to' get a connection for Wellington in r place of the discontinued Vancouver Ser? . vice and would improve the distribution f of the Frisco mail throughout the colony. He would have reports on the central . and Stratford routes ready for Parlia--15 ment. Government would approach the t question with an open mind, The Premier received an excellent reception and was' cheered on closing his s address. ! Dr M' Arthur moved, and Archibald of 3 Mangare seconded, the following resolu--5 tion, which was unanimously carried : — "That this meeting of Auckland citizens 3 expresses its thanks to the Right Jion R J Seddon, Premier, for the very .able addresses just delivered, and this meeting also resolves to place on record its } continued confidence in the policy and t administration of the present Governj ment. This was carried unanimously.
