Children's Procession

The children from the various schools in the district are invited to assemble under their respective teachers in front of the State School, Tainui street, at 2 p m, and start from thence for the Hospital at 2 30 p m sharp, simultaneously with the start of the general procession from Boundary street, so that the children will arrive at the Hospital grounds and take up their proper positions before the arrival of the Premier and soite. General Directions to Marshals

When the head of the procession arrives j at the Hospital Road, a halt will be made, j excepting the leading band, which will proceed and take up its position near the group of children. The Fire Brigade and Friendly Societies will then open to right and left and face inwards, so as to leave room for the Premier s carriage and the carriages : the Hospital Trustees and local bodies to ; pass through. When these are through ! the Friendly Societies will close up again, and headed by the second baud resume . the march to the dais after having given \ the Premier and company time to leave their carriages and take up their positions. All persons in carriages, on crossing the bridge, are requested to drive into the paddock by the contractor's road, there being no room for carriages in the Hospital grounds. • The Ceremony. As soon as the assemblage has gathered round the foundations of the new building, : the bands will play a piece appropriate to ! the occasion, and when they have finished the children will sing the New Zealand anthem. The Chairman of the Hospital Trustees will in an appropriate address ask the Premier to lay the foundation stone. The Hon the Premier will then call upon the architect to produce the plans of the intended structure, which he examines and approves, and then returns to the architect for the future guidance. The Secretary to the Hospital Trustees then reads the scroll, which he presents to the Premier, who requests the architect to deposit the same together with the coins struck in Her Majesty's reign in, the cavity prepared for them. The cement is then laid on the lower stone by the builder, and at the command of the Premier, the foundation stone is lowered into its bed, slowly and.carefully, ' the band playing solemn music and the j children singing a hymn. Afc the conclusion of the music the builder will present to fche Premier the silver trowel, suitably inscribed, which he asks him to retain in memory of the occasion. The Premier will then descend to the stone, and having seen that it is laid level * and square and properly cemented will declare it to be "well and truly laid." He will again descend the dais, and deliver , an address suitable to the occasion, after ; which a collection will be made in • aid of i the building fund, the bands playing a j voluntary, and finally the children will i sing "God Save the Queen." By Order, . I E I LORD, Architect to Trustees.
