NELSON CREEK.
(our correspondent.)
Mining matters in this district have never been worse, and I do not. see any show for improvement. If dredging does not brighten this' place up alluvial' gold mining kon its last legs. I saw in a statement of the Argus that there is. a likelihood pf Otago mining speculators visiting the Coast to see if ifc is suitable . for dredging purposes. If these gentlemen visit Nelson Creek I am perfectly satisfied that they will be favorably impressed with fche prospects hero. There are a number of claims pegged off," oue of them extending from Drennan's bridge to Dry Gully, and is owned by four Ahaura gentlemen — Messrs Murphy, Hargraves, Rundle and Dunn, I know nothing about dredging, but if a...first-class.dredgo.'dpes.bhe.'-wprk that we. read : aboufc ; I consider, this; claim the. best dredging property on the. West Coast. Mr Lynch; a gentlemen well acquainted with Nelson Creek, has charge: of this property. It is to : be.^opod that this .claim , will be,, the forerunner of others. .' ■ ';' Another 4»rfe e ,,blannVha9.bHeii. tajcen up at CuJjaglian's ""CreekV"'' which has 'been noted for its r|chness>- • < It is. well known that a.irich lead "of gold wont down the Creek .unfortunately out of reach of indi■■vidualsminers, Craig, Ruan e and Kilkelly, thesharehoiaersin.the property, have spent the best years of their life in the Creek, and should be able to express an opinion on it. It is highly thought of here as a dredging claim. Mr Kingswell, a Reefton mining speculator has charge of it. Ifc is only a matter of time when vve will see a rush for fchpse' Creeks fori dredging. The Sydney Coy in German Gully has knocked off work. This Coy has driven along tunnel and put two bores down one 96ft and the other 72ffc without getting payable gold, Mr Bowman, the Coy's engineer., has leffc for Sydney. From what I hear he intends- to come back and thoroughly test the ground.
The New Bendigo Gold Mining Coy is again idle. Report says that itis under offer, to a dredging company. There is no doubt but that this property is' highly payable if it can bo worked to advantage.
