COUNTY COUNCIL.
The Council met afc 230 yesterday. Present— The Chairman (Or M'Oarthy), Crs Marshall, M'Keohnle, Hannan, Harris, Fine, Hargreaves, Ryall, and Larkln. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and tha out* ward correspondence was read and approved of. From R J. Seddon, stating that owing to illness in his family he had gone on to Lytteltoa ; but hoped- to pay a visit to the Const later on. He was sorry to disappolnb the Counoll, but was sure th y appreciate the course taken under the circumstances. ~ Advice was received from Government Department agreeing to the erection of a telephone from Blackball to Ngahere. Several advices of revenue brought to credit were received. From R. Body, complaining that Mr Goard had trespassed on the old Maraden road in such a manner as to endanger man and beast. — Or Harris moved that a committed of the Council visit the locality and report on the matter, : the committee to consist of Ors M'Keohhle, Finn, the Road Overseer, and the mover. Or M'Keohnle seconded. Carried. From Mr Craig asking that the OverBeer's servioas be allowed for some surveying that would result to the Council's advantage. Agreed to / From Sydney G. Halnes, asking to be allowed to take up the position lately held by his father.— The Chairman moved that applications be called for the vacancy. Agreed to. . Or M'Kechnle moved that the Road Overseer be directed to have the upper end of the traok leading from Meehan's Flat to Maori C/eek pat in a passable state of repair.— Carried. Or Ryall moved that the Overseer be authorised to effeot some temporary re* pairs at the north end of the Goal Creek road. It weald cost aboot L4O. Eventually the Road Overseer was dlreoted to ■; oarry out some small repairs. The next meeting was fixed foe March 15th, 1898. This conoluded the business.

Suffice It to say that p?^ the various characters were well ponrtrayed, those of Divey Hawthorn, Miriam Wray and Charity Pringle particularly so. Mra Harrle Marshall (Alice Hawthorn) had a dlffioait part to sustain and acquitted herself well. The audience seemed to enjoy the production immensely. To-right " Ransom " will be staged, and ahould draw a bumper house.
