Melbottbots, July 11. Tha Steeplechase resulted:— Dnngan (Carey) ... ... 1 Timoni (Brewer) ... ... 2 Dondi (Smith) .... ... 3 The other starters were Songster, Larnook, Qulcllleht, Jol, Mikado 11, Graad>:^wlng, Walter, Meroury, Whernside and Leap Tear. Batting— 4 to 1 against Jol, , 7to 1 Mikado 11, 10 to 1 Duogan and Dondi. On tha fall of the flag Whem- ; aiie teok up the tanning, with Dangan and the favorite and Timoni next. Going along tha baok of the coarse Wbernslde fell baok, and before the sheds were reached Songster had taken up the vanning, and shortly afterwards Whernside and Lwnook fell. Going oat of the straight Qu'ckllght and Songster were taking the field along at a fair pace, but at the baok Dondi shot oat with the lead, with Timoui In seoond plaoe, Jol and Dangan also being handy. Dondi held his position until half way down the straight, when he was challenged by Dungan t and after a good set to between the placed horses tha latter won by a long neok from Timoni, who came with a great rattle at the finish. Time, 6 58.
