The rapid progress which marked the bailding of the Trafalgar at Portsmouth was a source of wonder and congratulation ; she was built and completed in the short space of three years and two months. The result of this achievement was declared by Lord George Hamilton in his annual statement last year to ba a saving of LIO.OOO. By the construction of the Royal Sovereign, however, the Portsmouth authorities have scored a yet more gratifying triumph. Whereas the Trafalgar ha 9 a displacement of 11,940 tons, the Royal Sovereign, — with her sisters, the Renown, Repulse, Families, Resolution, Revenge, and Royal Oakis the largest and moat formidable armour clad ever built for the Royal Navy. Her"displacement is 14,150 tons and she excels the Trafalgar in engine power, armament, and tjtal weight of armour, all of which is carried upon the same mean draught. She is also unique in other respects.
