TAYLORVILLE SCHOOL CONCERT.
) Following the custom of previous years, I the committee sought to augment their i r income by a concert, whioh came off last \ 1 Thursday, in Lange's Hall. The admis- i sion was only la, and probably aided ] in filling the house below and above. 110 children occupied the platform, and < as they were beaming with health, radiant c with smiles, and got up in very pretty ] fashion, they presented a spectacle of \ which teachers and parents were proud. The first part consisted of selections from 2 Ourwen's Third and Fourth Blackbirds, f
uid a number of recitations from the Reading Books ; all of which were rendered in even better style than the selections of former occasions, excellent as bhese were. Some of the action songs quite brought down the house and had to be repeated. ' The chairman of the committee, Mr Richard Armstrong, presided ; and both he and the Rev A. Thomson, Presbyterian minister, enthusiastically complimented Mr Malcolm, head teacher, and the assistant, Miss Scott, who presided at the organ, on the great pains they must have taken In training the children, and the wonderful success of that evening's performance. The second part consisted of a magic lantern exhibition by Mr Thomson, voluntarily offered, the lantern and slides being his own ; and for an hour he afforded muoh pleasure and amusement to both old and young. The singing of "See Saw" by the children while that picture was on the screen was very pretty and effective. Warmest thanks were accorded by the chairman to the rev gentleman and the teachers.
