The Countess of Jersey has arrived here on her way to join her husband, the Go-vernor-of New South Wales; (Received, February 14, at 11 40 a m.) Sydney, February 14. Government have issued 700 invitations j to the Federal banquet to be given to the delegates and others in the Centennial Hall on the .evening of March 2nd.. Invitations have been issued to the Mayors of the Metropolitan cities In the colonies, the members of the Legislature in/New South Wales, the Judges of the Supreme Court, Naval and Military officers, Professor of the University, and leading citizens. Sir Hercules Robinson writing to Sir Henry Parkes on -the question of federation considers that the customs' tariff and other difficult points must be lefb to the Federal Parliament to deal with. He apprehended that it would be impossible to get the various colonies to agree to uniform tariff beforehand, but by a give and take policy the Federal Parliament could easily come to a decision which would be acceptable to all. He concludes that perhaps New South Waleß would have to adopt ;a! little Protection, and little a* I like Protection it would be a cheap price to pay for the union. Melbourne, February 14.
