COST OF OCEAN MAIL SERVICE.
» [per press association]* Wellington, May 23. A table has been prepared by the secretary of the post office showing the receipts and payments for mail service during 1889. The cost of the Frisco service was L 27,394 -receipts, L 30.307 ; net profit, L 2.913. Direct service expenditure L 20.480 ; receipts, L 15.189 ; net cost to colony, L 5091. Mr Gray adds a note stating that only one month of the reduced subsidy Frisco service, la Included in the return. For 12 months under the present arrangement the profit would have been L 8527.
