The Colonial Treasurer stated in the House of Assembly this afternoon that for the first four months ofr the year a surplus of L 128,000 was shown. At the court martial Allan, a secondclass petty officer of H M S Egeria, was accused of taking part in a mutiny among the men, and was sentenced to five years' penal servitude. Another case will be heard to-morrow and five more on Saturday. -- Simpson, a distant relath c of Mr David the millionaire, ha 3 lodged a caveat against probate being granted to Mr John Hay, on the ground that at the time of making the will testator was not in a sound state of mind. Under deceased's will the Coolangate estate waß left to Mr Hay. •■; Brisbane, May 1. The Premier has asked Sir Henry Norman, Governor of Queensland, to request Admiral Lord Scott to thoroughly survey Torres Straits, as It is feared that there may be other unknown rocks there. [(Received May 2, at 1 p m.) Adelaide, May 2. Mr Henry E. Downer has been appointed Attorney-General. The general operations of the Assets Company, which has taken over the Commercial Bank assets, are to be removed to New South Wales.
