The barquentine Si. Kllda arrived at Melbourne yesterday after a lengthy passage of 20 days. The Anchor Line steamer Kennedy will reach here this afternoon and leaves for Westport on the same tide.
A serious collision occurred in Sydney Harbor on September 23 between Messrs Howard, Smith and Co's steamer Gabo and the Tasmanian Steam Navigation Company's steamer Flora. The Flora was so seriously damaged that she at once proceeded to discharge cargo, with the view of going into dock for repairs, which will probably occupy 10 days. The Gabo waß on her way to Melbourne, and the Flora was leaving the Tasroanian Steam Navigation Company's wharf. As the Gabo was-passing the wharf she crossed the Flora's bow, cutting her bow plates and bending her stem for about 12ft. The Gabo was going at a good speed, and the Flori came into contact with the Gabo abaft the after hatch on the starboard side. The force of the collision caused the Gabo to slew round to starboard and crash into Smith's wharf, which was cut away for about 14ft. The Gabo backed out and proceeded on her voyage, apparently uninjured. The Flora is stated to have had her engines going full astern at the time of the collision. The Flora having watertight forward bulkhead made no water.
