SUPPOSED DIAMONDS IN NORTH BORNEO.
By the arrival of the mail steamer Dorinda, at Cooktown, the following news from North Borneo has been received : — "During the past month various parcels of gold have been purchased in the town of St. Gama, and the finders have returned to the scenes of their labour. Each party brings good accounts of the Chinese workers, and the health of the diggers on the field. A Malay named Ashurn brought, in addition to 60<>zs. 1 dwt. of gold, 25 grains of small stone, said by a Sarawak accustomed to working for stones to be diamonds- . The Sarawak offered five dollars for one, but the parcel, which is the property of a small company, was entrusted to Henry Walker to send them Home for testing. Should this prove a true discovery, it will lead to great results. Captain Beeston dicovered smal) stones exactly similar in a different locality, which he has sent to Melbourne "
