TOTALISATOR RULING.
[to the editor.] Sib,— Much dissatisfaction was ex* pressed at the action of the stewards of the Grey Jockey Club in giving backers or Camarine and British Lion each £1 14s dividend in the Omotumotu Handicap. I have referred the matter to the sporfcin* editor of the Canterbury Times, and this is his reply :— lnquirer, Greymouth.— We quoted the rule in a recent issue, but repeat :— " In the event of a dead heat in which owners agree to divide, the total money will be divided pro rata between the investors on the horses running the dead heat," In the case jou submit each backer of British Lion should have received £1 Is and each backer of Camarine £4 10/. It will be noticed that the Orreymouth rule is exactly similar to the Canterbury rule. I publish this aa I consider the stewards erred in their reading of the rule, and in the hope that it may be a guide for them if at any future meeting a similar circumstance arises.—! an, &c, Sportsman.
