THE TYNESIDE COMPANY'S SIDING.
It will no doubt be of interest to your readers at Brunner to kiow that Mr Guinness interviewed the Railway Department this morning to know the reason for the delay in constructing the siding for the Tyneside Colliery Company. The explanation given was that the Harbor Boar-i would not give its consent to pay for the work till the Attorney-General gave his opinion that the Board had power to pay the cost of the siding. Mr Guinness saw the. Attorney-General, and tonight received his opinion, which states that the Attorney-General is quite clear that the Board has full power to expend its funds for constructing the siding if approved by the Government.
MrW. H. Jones wired the following last evening : — The Atterney-General was engaged all day in the Supreme Court for the Crown. Mr Guinness has arranged for a deputation to meet the Premier at 10 to-morrow morning. We have canvassed members individually, and met with fair results, as far as promises go. The Hon. Mr Lahman and Mr Guinness and the deputation met yesterday and carefully considered Mr Guinness's proposed amendments. At the request of the deputation a new clause was added protecting sub-lessees, and as soon as the bill is introduced your member will move his amendments. I fear the Premier's opposition. He seems to have told the lessees' representative that he will agree to no amendment which recognises that sub-lesseeß have any interest to protect. The Colonial Treasurer's sympathy is with the sub-lessees and diametrically opposed to the Premier's views. I think our chance of success lies in gaining personal assistance. Seddon will of course help us.
