ALL ENGLAND V. AUSTRALIANS.
London, July 20. The cricket match Australians v. England was resumed to-day, at Lords, in the presence of a very large number of spectators. The Home team with 202 runs and four wickets down continued their first innings. Barnes and Shrewsbury, yesterday's not out with 28 and 91 respectively, continued to make an excellent stand against the bowling, and Barnes had added 30 to lias score before being caught. Of .the players who followed Barlow and Utyett alone obtained j
double figures, the tormer 12 were caught and ihe latter 19 bowled. Shrewsbury maintained a good defence and ran up his ' score to 164 before a catch disposed of 1 him. The innings closed with a total of 353 runs. For the Australians the most successful bowlers were Trumble, 2 wickets for 30 ; Spofforth, 4 for 70. After the usual delay the visitors went to the wickets, but none of the batsmen succeeded in making any lengthened stand against the excellent bowling of Briggs and Barnes, who were- both dead on the wicket, and the innings closed for 121. The highest individual scores were — Jones, c, 25 ; Scott, 1b w, 30 ; Palmer, c, 20;Blackham, b, 23. For the Englishmen, Briggs took five wickets for 30 runs ; Barnes 3 for 20. Being in a minority of 232 the Australians had to follow on and at the close of the day's play the score for the second innings stood 22 with 1 wicket down.
