THE Grey River Argus. PUBLISHED DAILY THURSDAY, JULY 22, 1886.
The South Island Native Reserves Bill, published in our yesterday's issue, is remarkable for the way in which the recommendations of the Royal Commission, and of Mr Bunny, and the interests of the sub-les3ees, are completely ignored. The bill throws everything into the hands of the.original lessees, who will thu3 have the sublessees completely at their mercy. The bill, if passed as it stands, will in*
tensify the existing grievances on the part of sub-tenants, and will give in many instances undue and unjust power to those who stand in the poaition of original lessees. It will be also noticed that the leases are to^be for 21 years only, instead of 66 as recommended by the Commissioners.
