VICTORIAN ELECTIONS,

Melbourne, March 6,

From approximate returns to hand it appears that 54 supporters of the Coalition Ministry have been returned against 18 of the declare 1 Opposition members, and 14 Independent. All the Ministers have been elected with the exception of Mr James, Minister of Mines, who was defeated by a small majority. Among the prominent members elected are Messrs Harper and Madden, Constitutionalists ; Patterson, Opposition ; and Messrs Wood and Lalor, Independents. Among the rejected candidates are found Messrs Langton, Duffy, Angus M'Kay, and Fincham. All the candidates who stood on the labor ticket suffered defeat. The elections passed off quietly, no signs of disorder being visible at any of the polling places.
