4 LIVE STOCK MARKET. Monday, February 22. Fat Cattle. — The cattle yarded to-day were all local grazed, and were principally of fine quality, but despite this the sale dragged along very slowly, and prices were decidedly in favor of buyers, some few of the stock being left unsold through not reaching vendors' ideas of value. Messrs Kilgour and Perotti's lot of bullocks reached from £8 10s down to £6, two small cowa bringing £3 5; per head. The stock of the late John Hamilton, Ahaura, were all small stores, and brought from £2 15s downwards, two cows, with calves at foot, bringing £3 5s each, calf included. Mr Matthews's stock were of decidedly good quality, his two first bullocks topping the market at £9 10s each, the lowest priced ones being £7 10s. Two fat maiden heifers brought £7 15s and £6 5s respectively, and four young springers close on £6 per haad. Mr Donald's lot brou ht- an average of £7 7s 6d ; and Mr O'Malley's, £7. Mr Craig's lot brought from £8 10a to £7 10s, at which price the j balance was withdrawp. Mr Thorogood had four large bullocks, but only in a J half-prepared condition, which realised £6 5s per head. Three fat cows brought by Mr Carter were quoted*at £6 ss, £5 10s, and £5, and two were left unsold. We quote prime beef at 20s per lOOlbs, lighter weights, a shade higher ; inferior, 15s per lOOlbs. ' Fat Shbbp.— The loc penned were of fair quality and weights, mixed sexes, and were all sold at from lls to 12s 3d per head. Prime mutton is worth 2£d per lb. Fat Lambs.— There were two lots submitted, both of which were sold. The first lot was from Canterbury, and were shorn, and only of medium quality. They were sold, at an average of 7s 6d per head. The second lot were local grown, and being superior quality averaged 9s 9d per head. Fat Pigs. — There was a large supply, but the majority were only stores. Good porkers brought from 703 downwards, and stores down to 153 per head. Pork of good quality is worth 5d perlb.
