FAIR DUES.
[to the editor.] , Sir, — Your issue of Saturday makes it appear that it was- the Navals who did everything to save young Evans, being merely assisted by Mr Gregory. This is ' an error, and, therefore, an injustice. To my knowledge there were several others who dived for the cerpse for at least an hour before either of the two gentlemen you puff up so much arrived. I don't mean to say that they did not deserve thanks ; far from it ; but I would give honor to those to whom honor is due ; and I will ask any eye-witness if Allers or King don't deserve at least a word of praise for their courage and untiring effortß in diving as they did, as well as the Greymouth men. — I am, &c, Fair Play. Brunnerton, February 8, 1886.
