RIFLE FIRING.
The first competition for the cup and watch presented respectively by R. Nancarrow, Esq., Mayor, and J. G. Thomas, Esq., ex-Mayor, to the Naval Artillery and Greymouth Rifles, took place on Friday and Saturday last, at their range, and was won for the first time by Volunteer Harrison, of the Rifles, Gunner Perkins, of the Navals, being second. The rules for the competition are that the cup must be won three times by the same competitor before becoming his own property, the watch going to the highest average without points at the time the cup is won.
