FIRE BRIGADE COMPETITION.
Napier, January 28. The hose and ladder competition for five men resulted as follows : — Wanganui, 40 '5th sees. ; Napier, 38*2-sth sees. Auckland was disqualified. Hokitika, 48 sees. ; Timaru, 47 "3- sth sees. Masterton was disqualified. Kumara, 54'1-sth sees.';' Dunedin, 42 - 4-sth sees. ; New Plymouth, 48secs. ; Gisborne, BO*l-sth sees. Rangiora was disqualified. East Ballarat, 37secs. ; South Dunedin, 44'lOth sees. ; Ballarat city 36-4-sth sees, j Spit, 40'3-sth sees. Ballarat City takes first prize, value £85 ; Ballarat East, second, value £20; Napier third, value £10. The aggregate prizes for the best average time on hose practice, hose and ladder practice, and engine practice. — Dunedin City, first, value 30 guineas ; Ballarat City and Spit (equal), second, value 10 guineas. There was a large attendance on the ground.
