VESSELS IN PORT. Dispatch, tug steamer. ' Oreti, from Wellington
Commander Edwin wired yesterday afternoon at 2.46 p.m. that there were indications of unusually low tides until after low water to-morrow morning. t It will be cold to-night, and after twelve hours from now glass falling with cold N.E. and S.E. winds. The barquentine St. Kilda sailed for Melbourne yesterday with a full cargo consisting of coal, coke, hides, gas retorts, and miscellaneous parcels. She takes 12 passengers. The steamer Murray arrived yesterday from Westport. She returned there again in the afternoon. . The s.b Oreti arrived yesterday from Wellington direct, bringing a number of sheep and pigs for Cloueh and Keating. The s.s Koranui sailed yesterday for Dunedin and way ports with a full cargo of coal. A new contract has been arranged for two monthly trips from Hokitika to ports south of Okarito, and quartely trips to Okarito. The service begins with the despatch of the s.s. Waipara from Hokitika on Tuesday the 19th instant. * The Napier, on her last trip to Okarito, stuck on a shingle bank in the river on the sth December, and did not get off till portion of her cargo was discharged on the 7th following. From that time until Sunday last the shingle bank prevented her leaving, and it was only then with . great difficulty that she managed to cross the bar. It is very probable that there will be no fewer than three of tbe direct ocean steamers in Wellington at one time next week, viz., the Tainui, Ruapehu, and Kaikoura. H.M.S. Nelson will also be in harbour, The steamers Omapere, from Napier, and the Maori and Timaru from Wellington, are expected here this morning. The following were the passengers per Koranui, inward : — Mesdames Owen, Longton, and Hillier and family (4); Misses Turner, Davidson, Greenfield, and Hill ; Messrs Bishow, Dunk, Mv -field, Myers, Lawry, Howard, Reize, Claughan, Grey, Hollows (2), Thomas Gilbertson, Hillier, M'Cowan; Misses and masters Gibson (6). :
