Second Day. Christchurch, January 2. . The weather for the second day was unpleasant and windy. The attendance was poor. L 4890 were put through the totali- j sator, making a total of L 10.230 for the meeting. The following are the results :— Hurdle Race Handicap. Of 100 soys ; once round and a distance. T. Sheenan's Azim 1 J. Higgins's Secretary 2 T. Sheenan's Pristo 3 Ravenswood also ran. Azim ledthroughout. Secretary came up to his quarters on the last hurdle, but was beat by two lengths. Time, 3mins 12isecs. Divs., L 2 5s and L 2 4s 6d. New Year Nursery Handicap Cup. Of 150 soys ; five furlongs. F. W. Cook's Tarantalus 1 E. Lyon's Albany Fallacy colt ... 2 G. G. Stead's Sierra 3 Securus, Vinaigrette, and Mirilla also ran. Ruby was scratched. A splendid race ensued between the three placed horses,- who at the distance were all on even terms. Tarantulus won by a nose, while the Fallacy colt beat Sierra by a head for second money. Time, lmin i 6£ sees. Divs., LB l2s and Lll 6s. Grand Stand Handicap. Of 250 soys ; If miles. S. Higgott's Patrician ... 1 J. Stevenson's Captain Webster ... 2 A. Hathorne's Spade Guinea 3; Leon also ran. Betting, 6to 4 against Captain Webster, 2 to 1 Leon, 4 to 1 Spade Guinea. sto 1 Patrician. Captain Webster had the best of the start, and there was a splendid neck and neck race between him and Spade Guinea to the mile post, where Spade Guinea gained a slight advantage, but soon fell back in the straight. Patrician came through, and collaring Captain Webster a good run ensued home, tli« former winning by a length, Spade Guinea an indifferent third, and Leon last. Time, 3 mins lOf sees. Divs., L 4 10s and L 5 3s 6d. Hornby Welter Handicap. 100 soys ; seven furlongs. H. Harmond's Rocket 1 P. Butler's Fusilier 2 J. E. Pilbrow's Mermaid 3 Tressec also ran. Rocket, who was a strong favorite at 6 to 4, took the lead a quarter of a mile from home and wor by half a length. Time lmin 32isecs. Divs., L 2 So and L 3 4s 6cl. Flying Handicap Cup. 150 soys ; six furlongs. H. Hammond's Rocket 1 G. G. Stead's Marion : ... 2 P. Butler's Tit Bit 3 Maligner, Talebearer. Ironsides, Conundrum, Forest Kins, and Madonna also ran. Rocket and Maligner had the best of the start. The latter was overhauled at the sod wall by Marion and Tit Bit, but Rocket maintained the lead, winning by a length. Time, lmin 18secs. Divs., L 7 14s and L 7 13s 6d. The Selling Race was won by W. C. Webb's Venue, and the Consolation Race by Athol Daisy*
