DOT LEETLE ZHARMAN BAND.
'S^T [to the editorJ Sib, — As you evidently do not intend to notice that extraordinary effusion in the Hokitika Star of the 14th— and I must say * TjjSjiflfljsryou are quite right not to do so — v^^^rmitme to mention just one little fact IllPand^Ssk the Hokitika Band champion to ' answer it — if he can. I say that the band programme, as originally drawn up, distinctly laid it down that the piece for competition between the bands was ',o be a " quickstep ;" but that Mr Pfeiffer, the leader of the Hokitika band, positively declined to compete unless the programme was altered. As there could not be a contest without Hokitika, the Committee had no alternative but to make a virtue of necessity and concede the point with what grace they could. The whole thing was of 110 consequence whatever, and not a member of the Greymouth Band grudged Hokitika the award of first prize. They were guests, and we were only too well pleased to see them * come here and enjoy themselves, and go home with a kindly feeling towards the place and the people, to cavil at the decision of the judges ; but it is just as well to state the facts. — I am, &c, CIEF.
