It has been arranged that the vacancy caused by Colone' Reader's death is to be filled by Sir G. Whitmore's appointment as Acting Under-Secretary of Defence and a Commissioner of Constabulary without pay, and Major Gudgeon has been appointed as Acting-Assistant Undersecretary with an allowance of £100 a year in addition to his pay.
