ESCAPE OF CONVICTS.
Advices from America give particulars of a daring escape of convicts from Arkansas Penitentiary. Forty-seven convicts were working on the brick kiln belonging to the prison. When the time approached for leaving work one of the prisoners named Anderson snatched up a secreted gun. He levelled it at the head of one of the puard, and said, "Jim, I don't want to kill you, but unless you drop your gun I will do it." The' 47 .convicts were in charge of 11 armed warders^ The guard let the gun drop, and two other convicts became possessed of the gun, which they pointed at another of the guard named Lange. The remainder of the convicts were then ordered into the stockade. All complied except four negroes, who joined the three armed white men. The seven men then walked coolly to the prison wall, and made across the country. The alarm wa3 given, and pursuit commenced, but none of the men were resapt'ired. Bloodhounds were employed to hunt them down. One of the dogs got on the track of the men, but was killed, and the pursuit eluded. A sanguinary encounter was expected. The men were notorious prisoners, and would rather die than be taken alive.
