The negotiations which have -taken place between the' Government and the Union Company and Mr Center of the Oceanic Steam Company re the San Francisco Mail Service are concluded, and the Union Company and Oceanic*, Company have decided to undertake -the service. The Union Company will be v the principals in ! ithe contract, and carry ' the 1 ; ' mails from Sydney to Auckland, thence: to Honolulu, where they will be transhipped to the fine steamers running under the flag of the Oceanic ' Company. The contract will be signed ( tomorrow, but the details have not been allowed to be made public, nor the arrangements- be- ' tween the two companies. Mr Jas. Mills, 'Manager of the Union Company, and Mr Center, leave for Auckland on Friday. . One advantage, to passengers. undet.-the new contract is that should they wish to stay for a few days at Honolultir they could dp so and go on by the next steamer of ' they Qcear^ic Company, which , has. a fortnightly service between' Honolulu', and San" Francisco.
