MARLBOROUGH MEAT COMPANY.
Blenheim, September 30. The..Marlborough3leat JPreezing, .Co. Mr, pany's annual meeting of shareholders was held to-day. The report and balance sheet show a deficiency of £157 on the yeafs operations. The chairman, in moving the adoption of the report, said that the intention of the directors was to resume direct shipments from Picton on the first favorable opportunity. The report and balance sheet were adopted after adverse criticism. The shareholders declined to re-elect two retiring directors, but as there were none othera nominated the chairman declared them re-elected without putting the motion to the meeting, and ruled that no others could be nominated, legal notice not having been given. The shareholders then proposed a resolution in favor of winding up, but the chairman refused to accept it, as no special business could be taken. At the ordinary general meeting a vote of thanks to the directors was proposed, but found no seconder, until the solicitor to the, company seconded it. The motion was then j declared carried, twp voices only being heard in its favor." The directors and relatives and friends hold the bulk of the shares, and no adverse resolution can possibly be carried. The company's loss on the shipments per Lady locelyn and Lyttelton was £388, and private shippers in some cases lost heavily.
