The s.s. Kawatiri was ready for sea on Saturday afternoon, and would hare been despatched to her destination had the bar been workable ; but it has been very rough since' Saturday afternoon. The Dispatch went out yesterday about four o'clock in the afternoon, but there was such a heavy sea encountered that it was quite out of the question to think of the Kawatiri going out, and the fires _were allowed to go down.
The s.s. Waipara arrived on Saturday morning bringing the Hokitika cricketers and a number of passengers. The s.s. Mahinapua arrived from northern ports on Saturday morning. The s.s. Charles Edward put in on Saturday morning through stresß of ireather with Millis's Company on board. The new steamer built for Captain Williams by Messrs Luke, Sons, and Williams, is expected to be launched about the end of March. She would have been finished by the end of next month, the contract time, if it had not been for the great delay in the arrival of material ordered from England.
