GOLD-MINING IN QUEENSLAND.

A correspondent writing from Rock hauvpton to the Australasian says : — There is a wonderful revival in the gold - mining line, and I shall not be surprised to find that in a few months Rockhamp ton will be belted in by a perfect cordon of busy gold-fields townships. You have, doubtless, heard and' lead of the great Mount Morgan. Every one who has been permitted to inspect the strange metalliferous upheaval declares his amazement at the extraordinary richness of the stone, and all sorts of calculations are made as to the quality of thecrushings when rain comes, and the crushing plaut is put in full operation. Already about £100,000 has been paid to the original owners for their interest, and >"t is said, in all sober seriousness, that they have made gifts of at least a million to the buyers. 1 don't know sufficient of mining to enable me to express any reliable opinion thereon, but, judging from the quality of this conglomerate, and comparing it with stone I have known to crush five ounces to the ton, I have no hesitation in saying that Mount Morgan will turn out fifty. Of course, the main question is, will it last 1 and I am glad to say that there is a likeli* hood of even this treacherous problem being soon decided by the operations of a diamond drill. It is not, however, from Mount Morgan alone that gohjen specimens of real value are brought in ; they reach us from Cawarral on the coast, from Blackfellow's Gully, more inland ; from the Crocodile and from West wood, and I have seevr specimens from the Block and Pillar and Golden Bar that are literally glittering with the precious metal. An effort isjbeing made to thoroughly prospect the country, and it is being fairly responded to.
